• Testing

This page is a comprehensive resource for all upcoming state assessments, including the PreACT, WorkKeys, ACCESS for EL students and the ACT. These assessments are critical in evaluating student progress and ensuring that each student meets the necessary educational standards. Our goal is to provide clear and timely information to help students, parents and educators navigate the testing process smoothly and confidently.

    What are the tests?

    • ACAP - ACAP stands for Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program. This test evaluates student proficiency in key academic areas, including English language arts, mathematics and science, depending on the grade level. The ACAP is designed to measure how well students are meeting Alabama's Academic Standards, providing valuable data to educators, parents and policymakers about student achievement and school performance. The results from ACAP help identify strengths and areas for improvement, guiding instruction and ensuring all students are on track for academic success and prepared for future educational opportunities.
    • ACAP Alternate - The ACAP Alternate is a specialized assessment designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities. It provides an alternative to the general state assessments, ensuring that all students, regardless of their cognitive abilities, have their educational progress accurately measured. It assesses students in subjects such as English language arts, mathematics and science, which aligns with the state's academic standards but tailored to the unique abilities and needs of these students. The results help educators and parents understand the academic development of students with significant cognitive disabilities and guide individualized instruction to support their learning and growth.
    • ACAP ELA - This assessment evaluates students' proficiency in various aspects of English language arts, including reading, writing, language and listening. The test is aligned with Alabama's academic standards for English language arts. By measuring students' skills and knowledge in ELA, the test provides valuable information to educators, parents and policymakers about student achievement and helps guide instructional planning to support students' literacy development and academic success.
    • ACAP Math - This test assesses students' proficiency in various mathematical concepts and skills aligned with Alabama's academic standards. It covers a range of topics, such as numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement and data analysis. By evaluating students' mathematical abilities, the ACAP Math test provides valuable data for educators, parents and policymakers to monitor student progress, identify areas for improvement and guide instructional decisions to support students' mathematical learning and achievement.
    • ACCESS - ACCESS stands for Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State. This test is a standardized English language proficiency assessment administered to students who are identified as English Learners (EL). ACCESS evaluates students' abilities in four key language domains: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The results can help educators understand the language development progress of EL students, inform instructional planning and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for EL education.
    • ACT - The ACT, short for American College Testing, is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses high school students' readiness for college-level academics and measures their skills in English, mathematics, reading and science reasoning. Many colleges and universities in the U.S. accept ACT scores as part of their admissions process.
    • ACT Workkeys - The ACT WorkKeys test is a job skills assessment system that measures foundational and soft skills relevant to the workplace. The test evaluates abilities in areas such as applied mathematics, reading for information and locating information. Successfully completing the WorkKeys test can lead to earning the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), a recognized credential that certifies an individual's competencies in essential workplace skills. Employers use WorkKeys scores to make informed decisions about hiring, training and promoting employees, while educators use them to better prepare students for career success.
    • PreACT - The PreACT is a standardized test designed for 10th-grade students as a preparatory experience for the ACT college entrance exam. It assesses students in four areas: English, mathematics, reading and science. The PreACT provides an early indication of college and career readiness, offering insights into a student's strengths and areas for improvement. Additionally, it helps students become familiar with the format and timing of the ACT, reduces test anxiety and guides their preparation for the actual ACT exam. Schools and educators also use PreACT results to inform curriculum and instruction, ensuring students are on the right track for academic success.
