Albertville High School General Electives Course Descriptions
ADDITIONAL ELECTIVES
ACT Prep
The course will utilize ACT Certified Educator Training, ACT Online Prep, ACT Academy, as well as other ACT Prep resources to offer individualized and group ACT prep. The course facilitator will provide test-taking strategies and resources to prepare students for the ACT in all content areas.
Academic Prep
Students with special circumstances may use this time for homework assignments, completion of projects, additional tutoring, development of good study skills and habits, AP Test practice, and/or enrichment activities based on the student’s interests.
Prerequisites: Qualification for this course will be dependent upon seat availability and student schedules. Priority will be given to students enrolled in 3+ AP classes with remaining seats available to students enrolled in advanced classes.

Beginning Kinesiology
NOTE: THIS IS THE ONLY COURSE THAT FULFILLS THE GRADUATION REQUIREMENT FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION. Individualized fitness plan for lifetime fitness
Health (one semester course) Alabama High School Graduation Requirement
Develops skill for accessing personal health information.
Varsity Baseball
This course covers varsity baseball techniques. Emphasis is placed on refining skills and developing more advanced strategies and techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to play baseball at a competitive level. PREREQUISITE: Completion of the required Beginning Kinesiology course or an approved waiver substitution from the ALSDE Superintendent.
Varsity Basketball
This course covers varsity fundamentals of basketball. Emphasis is placed on skill development, knowledge of the rules, and basic game strategy. Upon completion, students should be able to participate in competitive basketball. PREREQUISITE: Completion of the required Beginning Kinesiology or an approved waiver substitution from the ALSDE Superintendent.
Varsity Cheerleading
This course covers varsity level cheerleading techniques. Emphasis is placed on developing skills, strategies, and techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to participate on a cheerleading squad. PREREQUISITE: Completion of the required Beginning Kinesiology course or an approved waiver substitution from the ALSDE Superintendent.
Varsity Football
This course covers varsity level fundamentals of football. Emphasis is placed on skill development, knowledge of the rules, and basic game strategy. Upon completion, students should be able to participate in competitive football. PREREQUISITE: Completion of the required Beginning Kinesiology course or an approved waiver substitution from the ALSDE Superintendent.
Varsity Golf
This course covers freshman level phases of golf. Emphasis is placed on refining the fundamental skills and learning more phases of the game such as club selection, trouble shots, and course management. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to play competitive golf. PREREQUISITE: Completion of the required Beginning Kinesiology course or an approved waiver substitution from the ALSDE Superintendent.
Varsity Soccer
This course covers varsity fundamentals of soccer. Emphasis is placed on skill development, knowledge of the rules, and basic game strategy. Upon completion, students should be able to participate in competitive soccer.
