Substance Abuse
Substance abuse prevention starts at home and should start at an early age. Preschool children can be taught to make healthy choices about what they put into their bodies. An example of this would be when we tell them to not eat crayons. This idea can be expanded as children get older to include using medication properly, asking a parent/guardian before taking medicine that is offered by others and saying no to experimenting with vapes, pills, alcohol and other drugs. These conversations should also include ways that students can say no and tips for handling those difficult situations. Parents can empower students to make healthy choices!
