AHS culinary team recognized at board meeting

ALBERTVILLE – The Albertville High School culinary team was recognized at last week’s board of education meeting for their fifth state championship. 

The team won first place at the Alabama ProStart Student Invitational and is advancing to the National ProStart Student Invitational in Baltimore, Md. They are the sole culinary team that will represent the state of Alabama at the national competition. 

In addition to taking home top honors, the students were also awarded over $42,000 in scholarships to prestigious culinary and hospitality programs across the nation. This was the fifth state championship in the last eight times that AHS has competed. 

During the meeting, the board also:

  • Approved the March financial report. The beginning fund balance was $54,472,269.49. The ending fund balance is $56,274,608.87. The general fund balance is $24,858,217.85. March revenue totaled $5,786,670.86. Expenditures totaled $6,344,580.62.

  • Approved several fundraisers. 

  • Approved the job description for an Alabama Numeracy Act K-5 building based math coach.

  • Approved the surplus and donation of weight room equipment from Albertville High School to Buckhorn High School.

  • Approved the renewal of the janitorial bid.

  • Approved the surplus and scrapping of four buses.

  • Approved an out of state field trip for FBLA students who have qualified to represent AHS at Nationals to travel to Orlando, Fla., June 28 - July 3, 2024.

  • Approved the creation of the Wrestling Booster Club at AHS.

  • Moved into executive session to discuss personnel items and other school business.
