• Public Records Request

The Albertville City Schools District conducts public business in a transparent manner, and fully complies with the Alabama Open Records Act, §36-12-40, Code of Alabama 1975. Alabama’s public records law says any citizen has the right to inspect and take copies of public writings, except for those exempted by law. It is the policy of Albertville City Schools to promptly provide citizens with public records upon request, subject to their payment of reasonable fees and to applicable laws protecting sensitive information.

    Submitting a Public Records Request

Prior to submitting a request, please look over these areas as they be useful and contain the information you are seeking.

    • Alabama State Department of Education Report Card – The ALSDE has provided huge amounts of information in the areas of accountability indicators, student demographics, student participation and proficiency, career readiness and graduation rate data, educator credentials, and educator experience.
    • ACS Monthly Financial Information – This includes many reports revolving around the finances of Albertville City Schools, including a check register accountability report.
    • Board Meeting Agendas and Minutes – Here, you will find our board of education meeting agendas, minutes, and policies.

Citizens may obtain a copy of the public records request form in writing by emailing publicrecords@albertk12.org. Once the form is completed, it may be emailed to publicrecords@albertk12.org or mailed/dropped off at the address below.

    What to Expect

We strive to respond as promptly as possible to all public records requests that we receive consistent with the demands of our functions as determined by state law.

The nature of your request will dictate how promptly we respond. If you request clearly identifies a specific, discrete document you are looking for, we will respond more quickly than if your request requires substantial staff time to process. A request will require substantial staff time to process if it requires difficulty in identifying and retrieving documents or taking measures to redact or otherwise withhold legally protected information.

In addition, we are permitted by state law to charge reasonable fees in connection with processing public records requests. We will notify you in advance of the fees you likely will incur because of your request.
