Substance abuse prevention starts at home and should start at an early age. Preschool children can be taught to make healthy choices about what they put into their bodies (ex. don't eat crayons). This idea can be expanded as children get older to include using medication properly, asking a parent/guardian before taking medicine that is offered by others, and saying "no" to experimenting with vapes, pills, alcohol, and other drugs. These conversations should also include ways that students can say "no" and tips for handling those difficult situations. Parents can empower students to make healthy choices!!
